Kara Swisher has worked with a number of outlets over the years, including CNN. However, her time with the network could be coming to an end. This comes out as the network is dealing with the Paramount Skydance merger.
Kara Swisher Has Been An On-Air Contributor For CNN Since 2023
Swisher is a journalist known for her work with New York Magazine and as a podcaster. She is also the host of On with Kara Swisher and co-host of Pivot.
In addition, Swisher also works as an on-air contributor for CNN. During a recent episode of the Pivot podcast, she discussed the merger between CNN’s parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Paramount Skydance.
While speaking with her co-host Scott Galloway, Swisher shared that she’s ready to say goodbye to the network now that the merger has been given the green light. She shared that she tried to find a way to continue, but felt she couldn’t work with her new bosses, which include Paramount CEO David Ellison.
Swisher continued, “I was trying to figure out ways I could work with them in some, like, licensing way. But then I thought, f*** these guys. I don’t want to work for them. I just don’t.” According to Swisher, she is set to leave when her contract expires on December 31, 2026.
Swisher Previously Talked About The Merger Earlier This Year
Last year, Ellison and his father, Larry Ellison, merged their company, Skydance Media, with Paramount, which has placed CBS News under their control. Over the past year, viewers have seen multiple changes at the news network following the installation of Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief in October 2025.
Galloway joked that Swisher’s bosses might celebrate her departure. She replied, “Maybe the Ellisons, that’s for sure.” However, she also expressed that CNN had originally wanted to keep her.
On a more positive note, Swisher expressed, “They’ve been trying to keep me. Very nicely been trying to keep me. And I have a lot of regard for the executives there now.”
This isn’t the first time Swisher has discussed the merger. According to TV Insider, Swisher told fellow journalist Margaret Talev during a speaking event at Syracuse University earlier this year, “I don’t think they’ll be good owners,” in reference to the Ellisons.
Swisher added, “I think they’ve already shown several times, including editorial choices, which Scott [MacFarlane, who left CBS after the Ellisons took over] knows more about than I. Though I know a lot, Scott — that they have no interest in journalism.”
