Amidst the recent drama regarding Sony and Hideo Kojima‘s Physint (and Xbox gladly scooping up the game), Kojima has dropped a little update regarding his upcoming horror game, OD. Tacked onto the end of the video shown at the end of Xbox‘s Tokyo Game Show presentation, Kojima thanked Xbox for believing in his devteam’s vision before mentioning the progress on the development of OD.
Kojima stated that development is “progressing smoothly”, with performance capture and ADR recording having resumed after the SAG strike put a hold on everything. “Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and the team have delivered intense and outstanding performances, which I can’t wait for you all to see.”
And in typical Hideo Kojima fashion, he then did what he does best, and teased OD as a “completely new kind of game” that will put “the thresholds of fear” to the test. “Through constant experimentation and iteration, the project is steadily taking shape. We look forward to sharing more information later down the line.”
He then confirmed that IT star Bill Skarsgård will play the lead role in Physint, while again trumpeting his relationship with Xbox.
“I would like to sincerely thank all of our players, fans, and community members for tuning in and for your continued support,” he said. “I would also like to thank our partners at Xbox for believing in our vision and walking this path toward the future alongside us.”
OD is currently being developed in collaboration with Xbox Game Studios. Alongside Lillis and Schafer, the game will feature the late Udo Kier. OD will take an anthology route, with segments written by various directors, including Kojima and Jordan Peele.
