During the conversation, Jesse Watters weighed in, all while referencing comments he’s seen through his work with the network.
AI & Gavin Newsom Were Recent Topics Of Conversation On Fox News’ The Five
Watters is known to many through his work with Fox News. He was introduced to many through his “Watters World” segment on The O’Reilly Factor.
Since then, Watters has become known for hosting his own namesake series, Jesse Watters Primetime. In addition, he serves as a moderator on The Five.
During a recent episode of The Five, Watters spoke with a few of his co-hosts about the growing concerns over AI and the threats it could bring. In addition to Watters, Jessica Tarlov, Dana Perino, Emily Compagno, and Greg Gutfeld took part in the discussion.
The discussion came about after members of the AI industry claimed it was time to slow the technology’s growth, with many concerned about its capabilities.
Tarlov admitted that her co-hosts are “in the no-regulation bucket” when it comes to AI. However, she felt the country should be concerned about how California fares with its own industry safeguards.
For his part, Watters shared that he wasn’t against regulations. However, he wanted to remain “prudent,” a word he admits he has often been described as.
Tarlov expressed, “I am moving around a lot between my – not necessarily my doomerism, but concern over what could happen, starting with the little stuff that everyone’s been talking about for a long time. “I’m not trying to minimize loss of jobs, but remember when – it feels quaint now, if we’re talking nuclear weapons, that people would say regular working-class people are going to lose their jobs, and then it moved on to actually it’s people with college degrees…”
During The Discussion, Watters Expressed That AI Was ‘Designed To Go Rogue’
Tarlov continued, “I’m curious if people think – I know that most of you are in the no-regulation bucket, but I was reading about the AI regulations that Gavin Newsom has put in California, a state that benefits the most of any other state in America from the AI boom, and he’s found a way to protect kids, do these regular audits of AI.” She also felt that the country should use California as a basis for further regulations in the country concerning AI.
When Perino asked Watters for what he thought, he expressed, “If Gavin Newsom is doing it, I’m going to do the opposite. And they made that prediction, that AI was going to take away a lot of jobs. It hasn’t happened. The exact opposite has happened. AI has actually added jobs, and we’re not saying we’re against all AI regulations.”
It was then that Watters offered his own self-description to emphasize his point: “We’re just saying, like let’s see what it does first, and let’s just be prudent because that’s what people think of me, prudence.” He continued, “This is what ‘they’re’ telling us. They’re telling us that this thing’s gone rogue. No, it hasn’t. It’s designed to go rogue. They created it to have no control. They basically said this is a nuclear weapon without a kill switch, let’s go public.”
