Henry Cavill may have been replaced by Liam Hemsworth in Netflix’s live-action adaptation of The Witcher, but with the dark fantasy series still being a favorite of the actor’s, it is no wonder that the next few months and years will be an exciting time for fans.
Expressing a deep and lifelong passion for The Witcher franchise, even before he was cast in the show, Cavill has not held back on endorsing the dark fantasy franchise which began thanks to the work of author Andrzej Sapkowski. Although The Witcher and The Witcher 2 were released in the early 2000s, it was not until the launch of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt back in 2015 that the franchise kicked off in earnest, leading to Netflix adapting its very own live-action television show with Cavill at the helm.
The Witcher Returns Next Week
Despite departing the show after season three, there is no doubt that Cavill’s love for the franchise as a whole still remains, and so he, alongside millions of other fans, will be excited to learn that it is set to return in just one week.
It was back in August that CD Projekt RED announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered will launch on 29 September 2026, offering fans of the original a free upgrade, a myriad of quality-of-life updates, enhancements to visuals, performance, gameplay, and more. Arriving on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, fans who already own The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on their chosen platform will be eligible for the free update. No catch.
Not only that, but The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered will also launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time, and courtesy of a brand-new partnership between CD Projekt RED and Blizzard Entertainment, the game will now be available to download on Battle.net as of 29 September.
That Is Not All
However, that is not all, as The Witcher fans also have plenty more to look forward to alongside the launch of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered. Ahead of its 2027 release, The Witcher 3‘s third and final DLC is now available to wishlist.
Titled Songs of the Past, it will mark the next DLC after Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine and will take players to a brand-new realm called Letten. This idyllic land full to the brim with rural tradition hides a dark secret under the facade, and it will be up to Geralt to uncover it. Not only that, but the DLC aims to bridge the gap between the events of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the upcoming The Witcher IV.
Last, but by no means least, is the news that the aforementioned DLCs, Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine, are now completely free to download and play on your chosen platform, giving you ample time to catch up on the story ahead of the launch of Songs of the Past.
There has never been a better time to get stuck into The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt universe ahead of a very exciting few years.
