A new PlayStation 5 remake of a hit JRPG that was originally released back in 2006 is free to check out right now, and if you’re a fan of the genre or the game itself, I encourage you to keep it on your radar. The genre is constantly on the rise, as one of the most popular types of games out there. Last year, Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster was released, not to mention the upcoming release of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation in 2027, which will represent the final entry in the three-part remake series of the 1997 classic.
However, that is far from the end. Companies are constantly revisiting some of their classics, and this is the case with developer Nihon Falcom, which will release a remake of a 2006 JRPG pretty soon. As was reported by PlayStation Lifestyle, the game is set to arrive in September, but players who are interested in checking it out can now download and play a demo of the remake for free on their PlayStation 5 consoles. There are no strings attached, so be sure to check it out if you’re curious.
The free JRPG demo on PlayStation 5 is for Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter. A remake of the 2006 JRPG originally released for PSP called The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC, the new game will be released for multiple platforms on September 16 this year. Now, a demo of the remake has been available on different storefronts, like Steam, as well as the PlayStation Store. This demo picks up at the start of the campaign and gives you access to the first chapter.
Even though you’ll obviously not be able to play everything the full game will have to offer, your progress during this demo can be recorded and carried over to the full game should you decide to purchase it after the release of Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter. On Sony’s side of things, the demo and the full game are only available for PlayStation 5, meaning that PS4 owners won’t be able to check it out. The demo’s also available for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
This game picks up immediately after the events of Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, following Estelle Bright as she investigates Joshua’s disappearance. This journey will take her all across the continents, meeting new allies and fighting enemies in turn-based combat. It’s a great moment to play Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter, as the end of the Trails series is already declared and set to occur in the following years.
There are still a few more years to enjoy the franchise, but with every new release, the end grows closer. This is one of the most underrated titles in the series, perhaps due to the fact that it was originally released for the PSP. However, this is now your chance to experience one of the finest JRPG experiences on the PlayStation 5 or other modern platforms.
