Fallout 4 is over ten years old at this point, but it’s still a game that players continue to return to in their numbers to get that unique blend of post-apocalyptic humor and over the top gameplay and combat. It’s a series with a unique, inimitable style, and as the most recent game of the bunch, it’s the one that feels the most complete and least jarring to play in 2026, even though both Fallout 3 and New Vegas have their own advantages over it.
That said, PC players are at a distinct advantage, in that they have access to the widest array of mods and access to the most powerful hardware on the market (funds permitting). Now, one player has pushed those visuals to the absolute limit, and it’s something you can replicate yourself with a little bit of technical know-how and an extra beefy graphics card.
Over on YouTube, the user Digital Dreams, who is known for pushing games to their absolute limits aesthetically, uploaded a video of Fallout 4 with over 1170 individual mods running. Known as the Sandlands mod list, it transforms every aspect of the game’s visuals, while really forcing the ray tracing through wherever possible.
It obviously includes more sand than the base game (as the name suggests), purely to test the technical limits of having so many particles like that in the world. Hard surfaces look a lot better, mostly thanks to improved reflections and lighting, with wet floors in particular really showing up considerably more than you would usually expect.
The comments largely agreed, with one saying, “Your work is incredible. I am a long time subscriber on your Patreon and my utlra modded version of Fallout 4: FROST looks absolutely incredible as I use your RTX and lighting shaders. When you publish new shaders, it is like Christmas, no matter what time of year it is. Thank you for all of your hard work and expertise. It makes gaming much more immersive!”
While another added, “Wow, I honestly mistook the first lil bit of video for Cyperpunk 2077, until I saw the classic Fallout 3-4 computer styles. Looks very good with those mods though, that’s for sure!”
The download is available via the creator’s Patreon page, which includes instructions on how to get it all working properly. You will obviously need a powerful graphics card to get it running smoothly, but it’s the best we can do in the meantime while we wait for Bethesda to pull their finger out with another Fallout game.
