Pokémon Winds and Waves is rumored to include a massive number of new Pokémon in the Gen 10 games. However, despite numerous leaks and rumors, the only official new Pokémon we’ve seen are the Gen 10 starters, and more news allegedly isn’t happening until 2027. Now, though, a new type for Pokémon Winds and Waves has shown up online, and fans are pretty split on whether this is a great idea for the upcoming games – or totally unnecessary.
The idea was proposed over on Reddit, and while most reactions were pretty negative, there were still a few fans who were hoping to see a new type in Winds and Waves. “Should these games introduce a Sound-type?” reads the post. “If so, then what could its type matchups be and why?” While it wouldn’t be difficult to see Pokémon such as Jigglypuff getting this new type, a lot of people were still opposed to the idea.
Fans had pretty strong reactions overall. “No and never,” reads the top comment on Reddit. Another comment states, “There is no reason to have any new type.” And scrolling through the thread, that’s how the majority of fans seem to feel.
The consensus is that Pokémon games already have enough types, so any new ones would be superfluous. The counterargument, however, is that it’s been a long time since a new type was introduced. Fairy, which debuted with Pokémon X and Y, was the last new type and that was in 2013. Since Gen 6, it’s just been the usual types in the mainline games.
Still, there have been persistent rumors that a new type is coming in Winds and Waves. The first official trailer, which you can view above, certainly didn’t show off any new types that we could see, but that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating. A new Seed-type has been rumored for months, despite its original source saying it was a translating error.
And a new Eeveelution continues being a rumor for Gen 10 as well, although most of those are based around a new Eevee evolution with a currently existing type. At the end of the day, it looks like fans are just hungry for more variety, even if the titles of Pokémon Winds and Waves hint that we’ll be seeing a lot of Flying- and Water-types. If there is a new type, like the proposed Sound-type, then we likely won’t learn about it until early next year.
