Dragon Ball is officially launching a new collaboration with Converse, and it’s beyond epic. As one of the oldest and most popular anime franchises in history, Dragon Ball has had countless different forms of merchandising over the years; there are all the video games and toys that are to be expected of an anime franchise, but Dragon Ball also gets plenty of clothing, food deals, and generally bizarre products like a backpack referencing Chiaotzu’s death in the Saiyan Saga and high heels styled after Frieza, so pretty much anything is on the table for the franchise.
After over 40 years, Dragon Ball is nothing short of a merchandising machine, and its latest collaboration is its best one yet, as for the first time, Dragon Ball is launching an official collaboration with Converse for Dragon Ball-themed Chuck Taylors and clothing, appropriately called “Converse X Dragon Ball Z”, and it all looks phenomenal. The collection officially launches online in North America and China on July 23 before launching a wider release on August 11, and any Dragon Ball fan who can afford to pick something up would be remiss not to do so.
Everything To Get In The Dragon Ball X Converse Collaboration
The main focus of the Converse X Dragon Ball Z collection, of course, is the Chuck Taylors: for $80, fans can buy Chuck Taylors in colors patterned after Goku, Vegeta, Frieza, or Cell, with the Goku and Vegeta ones also coming with a Dragon Ball and Scouter key chain, respectively; for $55, fans can buy Chuck Taylors that show Goten and Trunks doing the Fusion dance or have Majin Buu’s face on the tongue, although those are only for kids; and for $100, fans can buy Chuck Taylors with Shenron curled around the shoe.
The collaboration doesn’t stop there, though. Fans also have their pick of two graphic tees—a black one with a white outline of Shenron on the back or an orange one with Goku on the back—and a black hoodie featuring Shenron around a Converse-style Dragon Ball, and for anyone feeling creative, there will also be a “Converse For You” option that will let people make custom shoes with different colors and characters plastered on them. It all comes together into a fairly diverse collection, and Dragon Ball fans old and new should be able to find plenty to love.
Dragon Ball Is Still The Biggest Anime Franchise In The World
If there’s anything to take away from Dragon Ball’s big collaboration with Converse, it’s how big the franchise remains to this day. Despite the general age of the franchise, Dragon Ball Super’s lengthy hiatus, and Akira Toriyama’s untimely passing in 2024, Dragon Ball hasn’t slowed down in the slightest as it continues to turn out one new project after another, showing that it’s clearly more alive than ever. Dragon Ball Daima, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, and the upcoming adaptation of the Galactic Patrol Saga are prime examples of that, and sure enough, the Converse collaboration will be another.
Anytime any sort of new merchandise for Dragon Ball drops, it’s something worth getting excited about, and the Converse X Dragon Ball Z collection is one of the best examples of how true that is after over 40 years. There’s never been a more exciting time to be a Dragon Ball fan, and hopefully, the Converse collaboration will more than live up to the hype when it finally releases.
