In the world of mystery and thriller news, we continue to have a constant stream of adaptation news, which I love to see. I’ve also got some book lists for you, a release date for Lupin Part 4 (finally!), and a Netflix teaser of Scooby-Doo as a puppy to cleanse all the timeline feeds.
Procedural starring a Nuyorican Getting ABC Series Adaptation
Isabella Maldonado’s A Forgotten Kill, the sequel book to A Killer’s Game, is being adapted into a TV series through Justin Hartley’s production company (Tracker; This is Us). The book pairs Nuyorican FBI Special Agent Daniela “Dani” Vega with NYPD detectives to solve an active serial killer case and look into a case from Dani’s childhood, where her mom killed her dad when she was seventeen. You can get all the details via Deadline.
And if you want to keep up with the series, the third book, A Killer’s Code, was published in 2025.

Alyssa Cole’s Next Thriller
Alyssa Cole has a thriller releasing in early 2027 (!!), It Takes a Village, and the cover has just been revealed I loved her social thriller When No One Is Watching, and while this is not a sequel, it is set in the same universe. I mention this in case you need a gentle nudge to read Cole’s backlist, which also includes great romances like An Extraordinary Union, a blend of romance and spying during the Civil War.
Agatha Christie adaptations keep on keeping on
The BBC’s newest Hercule Poirot adaptation, Hercule, has now cast its (youngest ever) lead: Edward Bluemel (Sex Education, Killing Eve). The 33-year-old will play the famous Belgian detective in the reboot, and since BritBox is co-producing the series, US audiences will be able to watch, too. You can get more details at Deadline.
Loved the new mystery film The Sheep Detectives?
Here are two lists of book recommendations if you enjoyed The Sheep Detectives, the film adaptation of Leonie Swan’s Three Bags Full. Buzzfeed rounded up 11 cozy mystery books with unlikely detectives (some animal, some human), and Book Riot suggests these outrageous mysteries with animal protagonists with similar vibes.
PUPPY!
Regardless of how you may feel about Scooby-Doo and Netflix making an upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series, your day probably needs an adorable puppy. So here is a first-look video clip of Scooby-Doo: Origins from Netflix’s Instagram.
