A$AP Rocky Released After Posting $550,000 Bond

A$AP Rocky was released from jail after posting a bond of just over half a million dollars.

The rapper, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, was photographed leaving the Los Angeles Police Department headquarters in downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon surrounded by several officers. Rocky was allowed to leave after posting a $550,000 bond following his arrest for assault with a deadly weapon—a felony—in connection to an incident with a firearm that took place on November 6, 2021, per TMZ. He was cuffed at the airport earlier that morning upon his arrival at LAX from Barbados, where he and his very pregnant girlfriend, Rihanna, were spending time with family and friends. NBC News reported that the pop star was there at the time of his arrest, with the two having traveled on a private jet. Alan Jackson, Rocky’s lawyer, confirmed his client’s arrest to NBC.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ that the incident involves an alleged victim who claims Rocky shot at him a number of times and that at least one bullet grazed his left hand. The LAPD’s statement explained that “an argument between two acquaintances” escalated, leading to the suspect allegedly firing a handgun before fleeing the scene on foot with two other men. It stated that this all occurred around 10:15 p.m. in the Hollywood area, near Selma Avenue and Argyle Avenue, and that the alleged victim sought medical treatment for a minor injury. Police also served a warrant to search the musician’s Los Angeles home on Wednesday, reportedly busting through his front gate with the use of a battering ram, according to TMZ. Upon the conclusion of their search, police were photographed leaving the home with a box of possible evidence. Rocky has a court date set for August 17.
