The Home Where Linda Tripp Recorded Monica Lewinsky Sells for $523,000

The Columbia, Maryland, home where Linda Tripp recorded her 1997 conversations with Monica Lewinsky is off the market.

The four-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath house sold for $523,000 in September 2021 to an undisclosed buyer, according to the New York Post. As stated in the listing, the 2,300-square-foot home features wood flooring and chair railing throughout, a gourmet kitchen, living room, a formal dining room and a family room, both with built-in fireplaces.

Tripp lived at the residence from 1983 until 2000 when she had to relocate over privacy concerns when the property became a crucial location featured in Bill Clinton’s impeachment trial, as it’s where she recorded Lewinsky discussing her sexual relationship with the then-president. During the trial, the Pentagon staffer had to cover her windows with bedsheets to hide from the media camped outside twenty-four-seven. Tripp didn’t actually sell the house until 2002, however, when she unloaded it for $275,000, according to the property deed. It was sold again in 2011 before going back on the market last year.

Joseph Murtha, the civil servant’s criminal defense lawyer, told the Baltimore Sun at the time, “I think Linda moved to try to regain privacy in her life. She was looking for an area that would offer her a more private environment.” After selling the Maryland property, she moved to a 100-acre horse farm in Marshall, Virginia, where she turned a small cottage into a six-bedroom, seven-and-a-half bathroom mansion. Tripp died on April 8, 2020, at age 70 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
