Sarah Snook Quietly Got Married During the Pandemic Wearing Blundstone Boots

The Succession star revealed in a new interview that she fell in love with and wed one of her “best mates.”

Sarah Snook has had a very busy year. Not only did she film the new season of Succession, but she also fell head over heels in love, proposed, and got married to her “best mate,” Australian comedian Dave Lawson.

In a new cover interview for Vogue Australia, the actress revealed she has a whole lot to celebrate right now. “At the beginning of the pandemic last year, I got locked down in Melbourne with one of my best mates and we fell in love,” she said of the surprise romance. “We’ve been friends since 2014, lived together, travelled together, always excited to see each other, but totally platonic. We’ve just never been single at the same time.” And with all that time spent together in lockdown, their relationship progressed quickly with Snook proposing and the couple getting married shortly after in February. They had a small ceremony in the actress’s backyard in Brooklyn with her housemates and her Succession co-star Ash Zukerman serving as witnesses. The bride wore a vintage velvet Chloé coat and Blundstone boots. “We had matching Blunnies,” Snook enthused. “It’s been a ride. There’s so much heartache and sadness in the world, but on a micro personal level, I’ve been very fortunate. There’s a really lovely grace in that without the pandemic, we might not have ended up together so quickly.”

The Emmy winner also discussed how odd it’s been becoming internationally known as Shiv, her brusque, cold-hearted character on Succession, as she says they actually couldn’t be more different. “I always feel like I’ve played by choice and good fortune, interesting, complex, strong and a good diversity of women, in terms of their characters. They often have a strength and they’re not pushovers, but there’s usually been a redeeming softness that they’re protecting,” she explained. “And Shiv has that as well, but her defense of that softness is so different from who I am as a person.” Snook’s life is also very different from the uber-luxurious one fans see on screen, saying that she has “no idea what it is like to be a billionaire, other than through research.” Meanwhile, in reality, “I’m on this farm with Dave in nature and I’m like, ‘Woo hoo!’”
