Chris Rock Says He Has COVID, Wants You To Get Vaccinated

The comedian appears to have a breakthrough case after getting the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Chris Rock fired off a succinct tweet on Sunday morning that nobody wanted to read. “Hey guys I just found out I have COVID, trust me you don’t want this. Get vaccinated,” he wrote. Here, you can read this terrible news for yourself.

Rock’s illness appears to be a breakthrough case. When he came on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in May, he proudly declared himself vaccinated. He called himself “two-shots Rock” and joked that other than “the tiny foot growing out of my ass,” he felt no side effects from the vaccine.

He later clarified that he got the Johnson & Johnson vaccine (so the “two-shots” is not exactly accurate, as that version is a one-and-done) and then zinged that Johnson & Johnson is “the food stamps of vaccines.”

He also joked about how he “used his celebrity” to jump to the front of the inoculation queue. “I did Pootie Tang, let me to the front of the line,” he cracked, adding that he shoved older folks like Betty White and Judge Judy aside.

Vaccines, be they the Johnson & Johnson single shot, or the Moderna or Pfizer double injections that are spaced out over time, are not a 100-percent shield against COVID-19. However, they are extremely effective in reducing the seriousness of the disease.

The New York Times reported last month that, after analyzing data from 40 states and Washington, D.C., “fully vaccinated people have made up as few as 0.1 percent of and as many as 5 percent of those hospitalized with the virus in those states, and as few as 0.2 percent and as many as 6 percent of those who have died.”
