Armie Hammer‘s career continues to suffer in the wake of unverified social media allegations that he sent graphically explicit DMs. While Hammer has called the controversy “bullshit,” it has led to him dropping out of the romantic comedy Shotgun Wedding, in which he was to star opposite Jennifer Lopez, as well as the forthcoming Paramount + series about the making of The Godfather, in which he was going to play producer Al Ruddy.
The Hollywood Reporter reported late Friday that Hammer is now no longer represented by powerful agency WME, and that his personal publicist has walked away as well.
The distribution of the alleged screenshots on Instagram has opened a Pandora’s box, with at least three of Hammer’s former partners making claims against him. As Variety puts it, the women say “he used his sexual proclivities as a smokescreen” and they are “accusing him of emotional abuse, manipulation and coercion.” One told Page Six that Hammer, the great-grandson of oil tycoon Armand Hammer, wanted “to break my rib and barbecue and eat it.”
Concurrent with this scandal, Hammer’s wild Instagram videos from the Cayman Islands prompted an investigation from authorities in the Caribbean nation, who gave the Golden Globe nominee “a warning.” Hammer had to go on record that the scantily clad woman he referred to as “Miss Cayman” was not, in fact, the real Miss Cayman.
Hammer’s ex-wife, Elizabeth Chambers, has made some roundabout commentary on the issue, like bombarding her office with cleansing sage and making Instagram posts that simply say “No. Words.”
