[R.I.P.] Oscar-Winning ‘Young Frankenstein’ Actress Cloris Leachman Has Passed Away

We’ve learned the sad news tonight that legendary actress and comedian Cloris Leachman passed away of natural causes at the age of 94 on Tuesday in Encinitas, California.

Cloris Leachman won a “Best Actress in a Supporting Role” Oscar in 1972 for The Last Picture Show, and she also won multiple Emmy Awards throughout her career for everything from “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” in the 1970s to “Promised Land” in 1998 and “Malcolm in the Middle” in 2002 and 2006. Most recently, Leachman was nominated for “Raising Hope.”

Leachman was also nominated for four Golden Globes from 1972 to 1976, winning in 1976 for her performance in “Phyllis.” Her nomination in the “Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical” category at the Golden Globes the previous year was for Mel Brooks’ Universal Monsters spoof Young Frankenstein, where she memorably played Frau Blücher.

On the horror front, Cloris Leachman most recently appeared in Christopher Landon’s horror-comedy Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, and her previous genre appearances included Lake Placid 2, Scary Movie 4, My Boyfriend’s Back, Deadly Intentions, and The Demon Murder Case. She also starred in episodes of “The Twilight Zone” and “Alfred Hitchcock Presents.”

Leachman is survived by sons Adam, George Jr., and Morgan, and daughter Dinah.
