Common appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Friday, ostensibly to promote the release of his new EP A Beautiful Revolution (Pt 1), but was not averse taking a victory lap on a different matter.
When Stephen Colbert reminded him of his more prestigious accolades, like the Oscar, Emmy and three Grammys on his shelf, he also mentioned amore recent triumph: finding himself in the pages of People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive issue.
Colbert joked about his chiseled torso, saying “that’s not right!” Common, through chuckles, pointed out that what you see in the pictures isn’t painted, and isn’t photoshop. His daughter, apparently, hates his inclusion in this year’s gallery of hunks, while his mother pointed out that he was “one of” the sexiest. (Michael B. Jordan was on the cover.)
As the two men had their virtual chat, Colbert asked the hyphenate superstar about his current relationship with Tiffany Haddish. “She’s a true queen,” he said, “with a lot of love in her heart.” He dished that he, indeed, helped with her recent haircut. He suspects, however, that she will not be making a second visit to his beauty parlor.
A Beautiful Revolution (Pt 1), which came out October 30, features contributions by Stevie Wonder, Chuck D, Lenny Kravitz, Black Thought, and PJ. Common says the EP is meant to “uplift, heal, and inspire listeners dealing with racial injustices as well as other social injustices.”
