Sarah Cooper is reclaiming her voice. The comedian and TikTok star, who went viral earlier this year for lip-synching Donald Trump’s surreal speeches, is getting her own Netflix special. Deadline reports that Sarah Cooper: Everything’s Fine will debut this fall, directed by Natasha Lyonne (Russian Doll) and executive-produced by Maya Rudolph (SNL).
Cooper’s solo special is her latest high-profile gig, after virtually guest hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live and writing the bestselling books 100 Tricks to Appear Smart in Meetings and How to be Successful Without Hurting Men’s Feelings. According to Netflix, Sarah Cooper: Everything’s Fine will feature “vignettes dealing with issues of politics, race, gender, class, and other light subjects.” She’ll also welcome a few special guests for “short interviews, sketches and more shenanigans,” per the streamer.

Cooper first went viral on TikTok in April, with a video titled, “How to Medical.” In the clip, she lip-syncs along as Trump attempts to explain how using “disinfectant” or ingesting bleach could be a cure to coronavirus. She also plays the role of Dr. Deborah Birx, who stands by with a look of worry on her face. After that video gained more than 20 million views, Cooper began posting other satirical impressions of the commander-in-chief. Each one, branded, “How to…” deals with topics ranging from Trump’s passage of a seemingly-basic cognitive test to his assertion that he’s “done more for the Black community than any other president.” Her latest is a meta-commentary on how Trump may be banning TikTok, the very app that propelled Cooper to mainstream success.

There’s no official premiere date for the special, which will be executive produced by Cooper, Lyonne, Rudolph, Danielle Renfrew Behrens, and Paula Pell. But it will hit Netflix right in the midst of a sure-to-be colorful election cycle. During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Cooper said of Trump: “Any time he had to talk about grief, or loss of life, he stumbled. He’s not comfortable with empathy. He’s not comfortable with grief. He’s not comfortable with anything that makes him feel bad or look bad.” With that logic, it’s safe to say Trump isn’t comfortable with Cooper’s rise to comedy success.
