Fosso, who has been working as a photographer since he was 13 years old, was born partly paralyzed. Because of this, there are no photos of him as a child and he made it his life’s work and inspiration to express himself through photos he took himself. In an interview with The British Journal of Photography, Fosso addresses the question of his artistic choices—“When you ask me why I privilege my self-portraits, I believe the answer is rooted in the condition of my life and the meaning of self-representation.”
