Prince William and Prince Harry Split Up Yet Another Joint Effort

Prince William and Prince Harry are continuing the process of disentangling their joint ventures. Most recently, according to People, splitting the fund founded in memory of their late mother Princess Diana amongst their individual charitable efforts.

The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund was originally instituted following her death in 1997, and since 2013, has been paid into the Royal Foundation, a charitable fund used by Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle.

After Harry and Meghan stepped back from their roles as senior royals earlier this year, moving to Los Angeles, the couple has also relinquished their position at the head of the Royal Foundation and their philanthropic organization, Sussex Royal, was disbanded. The change leaves William and Kate as sole executors of the foundation which received around $27,000 from the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund last year, according to its annual report.

While Harry and Meghan work on setting up their new organization, Archewell, Harry has asked that his share from the year go to his HIV/AIDS charity Sentebale, which was inspired by his mother’s work fighting the life-threatening condition.

This news follows the June 2019 announcement that the royal brothers were splitting up their charitable efforts so each could pursue their own favored projects. “When the foundation was formed it was for two boys in their early 20s. Their lives have changed considerably. Everything has been brought into a clearer focus now and there’s a new direction,” an aide told Vanity Fair at the time. “This is a natural development. It’s a starting gun for some ambitious projects for the future and I think everyone is really excited. There is plenty of work to go around and the two foundations will work closely together.”
