Trevor Noah Roasts Trump for His “Humiliating” Tulsa Rally Failure

“Trump talked about Rampgate for a whopping 10 minutes and 23 seconds, Colbert said on The Late Show, “which is almost as long as it took him to get down that ramp.”

During that section of the rally, Trump also felt the need to respond to critics who have mocked him for drinking a glass of water by using two hands. Recalling a conversation he allegedly had with First Lady Melania Trump, the president said he was extra careful with the drink because, “I don’t want to get water on the tie, and I don’t want to drink much, so I lift it up, the water.” As he drank water on Saturday night without the aid of a second hand, the crowd cheered.

“Seriously, has a president set a lower bar? ‘Woo! That arm works! That arm works!’ The crowd cheered the president drinking water with one hand the way NASA cheered when they landed a rover on Mars,” joked Meyers.

Mirrored Colbert: “That’s how low the bar is for Trump these days. He gets applause for sipping water. It reminds me of Eisenhower’s reelection slogan: ‘I like Ike because he can use the big boy potty.’”

But it was Noah who perhaps best summed up the strangeness of the water incident and the weekend rally itself. “I’m proud to live in a country where the president can drink water with just one hand sometimes,” he said. “It feels like the long the Trump presidency goes, the more confusing it’s going to be for kids studying American history in the future. ‘So, Lincoln was hailed for freeing the slaves, and Kennedy was lauded for putting a man on the moon, and Trump got cheers for drinking water? Did they mean inventing water? Is this textbook right?’”
