Come, Drive Yourself Mad With Us By Wondering If Alia Shawkat and Brad Pitt Are Just Friends or Something More

Brad Pitt and Alia Shawkat: Just friends or something more? Just friends or quarantine buddies and you know what that means? Just friends or makers of performance art, some kind of living, breathing commentary on the gossip industrial complex? These are the questions that plague an anxiety-ridden tabloid-reading public while stuck at home (moi). Us Weekly has multiple anonymous sources willing and able to comment on the two’s hangouts. Some say, just friends. Others say, something more!

“They have an incredibly tight bond and trust each other implicitly,” one said. “Alia’s been a wonderful help for Brad during this major transition.” This person added that “they’ll order to-go food like burgers or pizza and just kick back for hours, or go for a drive down the coast.”

“They’re hanging out plenty,” another said. “They’re only about 10 minutes away from each other, so Alia will bike or walk to Brad’s place whenever they have time to chill. It’s all very organic and easy.”

A third said they are just friends!

So is it organic and easy? Pizza and kick back for hours? Or are they just friends??

Way back in a different world called “January,” Pitt said at the Golden Globes, “I wanted to bring my mom, but I couldn’t because any woman I stand next to, they say I’m dating, and it would just be awkward.” Was that an honest joke referring obliquely to his pal Shawkat or a total deflection, a red herring? Are they dating or are they just friends???

Seems like there are no answers to be had here right now, so here’s something concrete, something real to hold onto: a photo of Shawkat walking around somewhere in L.A. provided by the Daily Mail. The photo may have nothing to do with Pitt, but there she is wearing sunglasses and a hat to “step out.” What else can we have? How about an update on Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s relationship? “Things between Brad and Angelina are better than they have been,” a person said, also by way of Us Weekly. “They’re more cordial—they’re aiming toward resolutions that work for each of them.” So there is that.
