Meghan Trainor broke through over a decade ago with her body-positive anthem “All About That Bass,” but now she is making transformations as she is getting older.
The Grammy winner, 30, made an appearance on Today, in which she opened up about her health and wellness journey to co-hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager. The “Made You Look” hitmaker revealed that her children were her motivation to improve her fitness.
“I mean, look at those kids,” said Trainor. “I’ve got to lift them up and chase them. I’m exhausted.”
Trainor is the mother to sons Riley, 3, and Barry, 1, both of whom she shares with her husband, actor Daryl Sabara. According to Trainor, the kids have been very supportive of her amid her workout routines.
“They come and visit me every single workout,” Trainor said. “They come at the end.”
The singer and songwriter detailed her workout routine, noting that she doesn’t go to the gym every single day.
“I’m not crazy,” she quipped.
“I try to go three times a week of lifting weights,” Trainor continued. “I didn’t know lifting weights would change my life so much. I was, like, dying, trying to run on the treadmill, and it made me swollen.”
Kotb also shared how helpful lifting weights is for one’s endurance.
“Weights give you more energy later. I think when you run you get more adrenaline, but when you lift weights, you’re like, wow,” she said.
Even outside of the gym, Trainor incorporates portions of her workouts in her everyday routine, noting how she’ll often carry her children like weights.
“Now, I lift them up like a dumbbell,” Trainor said. “I’m like, ‘Okay, use your legs!’”
