Dancing With The Stars just presented its 500th episode and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Viewers enjoyed reflecting on 19 years of DWTS and all the talented contestants featured over the course of 33 seasons.
Former pro dancer Sharna Burgess participated in the opening group number, leaving many fans wondering if she’s returning for Season 34.
But at the end of the night, another couple left the competition. Now there are five couples remaining. Who advanced to the semifinals and who left?
The 500th DWTS Episode Featured A Clear Leader
There have been many exciting routines so far this season, but the 500th episode featured the first perfect score of the year. Disney Channel actress Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong sincerely impressed the judges with their Argentine tango to “Para Te” by Appart, inspired by Derek Hough and Kellie Pickler’s Season 16 performance.
In addition to the individual routines this week, the top six also had to compete in an “Instant Dance Challenge.” Each team had only five minutes to choreograph a routine to a surprise song and dance style. It wasn’t easy, but judges expect quite a bit from the finalists.
The Bachelor star Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson attempted the Instant Dance Challenge first and performed remarkably well. They earned a 28/30 from the judges, just one point below the score for their individual routine.
However, one couple stood above and beyond all the others during the challenge. Brandon Armstrong and Chandler Kinney also received a perfect 30/30 for their improvised Cha-cha-cha to “Apple” by Charli XCX.
Brandon’s jaw dropped as the judges handed out their scores, added that he’s never received a perfect score — let alone two in one night. Combined with their individual routine, they took home the top spot on the leaderboard with a perfect 60/60.
Another Couple Exits The Ballroom
Each of the top six couples performed to the best of their abilities, but it was time for one couple to say goodbye. Olympians Ilona Maher and Stephen Nedoroscik were announced as the first safe competitors, excited fans around the world. They might not frequently top the leaderboard, but they’ve developed quite a large following.
Ultimately, NBA star Dwight Howard and Daniella Karagach were eliminated at the end of the night. They had a phenomenal Halloween performance but struggled all season long with their drastic height difference.
