Chappell Roan Goes Country On ‘SNL’ With New Song ‘The Giver’

Chappell Roan utilized the Saturday Night Live stage early this morning (Nov. 3) to debut a new, country-forward new song, “The Giver,” on which she boasted of her ability “get the job done” and satisfy a female partner much more effectively than “boys” who “may need a map.”

Roan’s outfit further reflected the surprising change in sound, as she switched into very short shorts and boots while her female backing band was decked out in old-school Western shirts and denim.

“Only a woman knows how to treat a woman right,” she sang atop fiddle-flavored instrumentation. “You ain’t gotta tell me / It’s just in my nature / So take it like a taker / ’cause baby I’m a giver.” The track is likely appear on Roan’s follow-up to the smash 2023 Island album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, a release date for which hasn’t been announced.

Roan’s first performance of the show was Princess‘ “Pink Pony Club,” which has accumulated more than 275 million streams on Spotify alone. At the moment, “The Giver” has not been posted by SNL‘s official social media platforms.

Elsewhere during the John Mulaney-hosted episode, Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris joined her longtime impersonator Maya Rudolph for a show-opening sketch. Several cast members later broke into song during a sketch about the Port Authority Bus Terminal location of Duane Reade.
