What Pedro Pascal Said on Stage to Kieran Culkin That Was Censored at the Emmys

Pedro Pascal was a presenter at this year’s Emmys, dressing up his sling with a black sweater and slacks tonight. On stage, the actor acknowledged the question on everyone’s mind: What happened to his arm? His answer, which supposedly involved Kieran Culkin, was censored on the Emmys’ Fox broadcast. The audience, however, heard and shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Pascal said, “Everyone’s been asking about my arm, but it’s actually my shoulder. And I think it’s time to let everyone know that Kieran Culkin beat the shit out of me.” Users on X caught Culkin’s reaction before he laughed seconds later, taking in Pascal’s joke.

Pascal revealed how he actually broke his arm at the Golden Globes, although he didn’t give graphic details. “I fell,” he told the Associated Press. “Be careful. Exactly. It can happen to anyone.”

His quip tonight is a playful response to Culkin, who beat him for the Male Actor in a Television Series – Drama award at the Golden Globes last week. “Suck it, Pedro,” Culkin had said onstage. The camera cut to Pascal jokingly pouting in the audience before laughing along.

At the Emmys, Pascal is up for Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series for The Last of Us and Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his appearance on Saturday Night Live.

Pascal spoke to Esquire about his future on The Last of Us given what happened to his character Joel in the game’s sequel. He hasn’t played the games but said, “It wouldn’t make sense to follow the first game so faithfully only to stray severely from the path. So, yeah, that’s my honest answer.”

His co-star Bella Ramsey said of his character’s future possibly following the game’s, “If that does take place in the show, I don’t know that I’m emotionally ready for it.”
