Interview: Actress Fátima Camacho

Fátima Camacho aspired to be an actor as a young child growing up in Argentina. She attended the music theater school Superstars where she studied music, acting and dancing. She later moved to Buenos Aires where she took acting and directing classes and worked on plays by Chekhov, Brecht and original pieces by local writers.

Since her arrival in LA, Fátima has been featured in the movie called “Candy Flip” which was produced by David Lipper and starred Matt Rife. She also had a role in the new Johnny Knoxville film “Sweet Dreams”, and has recently completed two short films, which will be making the film festival circuit shortly. Currently she is working on a play called “Slippery Knot.”

I caught up with Fátima we had a conversation regarding her career, and her hopes for the future…..

What inspired you to want to become an actor?

When I was very young, I started doing musical theater. And I had acting classes since I was a kid. After that, I wanted to dedicate myself more to the field of dancing. Then when I was in high school, I thought it was time to find a career and decide what I really wanted to do for the rest of my life. I realized that acting was something that I always wanted to do.

So, then you moved to LA?

I began doing theater first in Argentina, and then I moved to LA.

Do you sing as well?

Well, when I was young I did sing, but I really don’t anymore.

What do you think you would like as a role if you had your choice and could pick any type of character on the planet?

I really think I would enjoy playing a character like Harley Quinn. I think it would be so fun.

Who has influenced you in the acting industry?

I think I’m most influenced by the actress Salma Hayek. I also really like Rachel McAdams.

Where do you hope to be in 5 years?

I really would like to star in a feature film and also write it. That’s where I want to be in five years.

What are some of the challenges that you face being in this industry?

I think the thing that’s most challenging for me is the fact that we are all trying to make it…so I guess it’s the competition.

If you could have your parents be two famous celebrities who would you pick ?

I would love to be the daughter of Meryl Streep to be honest. For my dad I guess I would pick Brad Pitt.

You’ve been in some cool productions, let’s talk about them.

Right now I’m doing a play called “A Slippery Knot”. It’s an original play actually. I’m also working on a short film which we are going to shoot in May called “Abysmal Thoughts” where I play a college student which is the main character. She’s about 23 years old.

When you get a role, how do you prepare for it?

It depends on the role. If it’s a comedy, I try to make myself get very energetic and get my blood flowing, like jumping or doing jumping jacks or even screaming. If it’s more of a or emotional, I try to meditate and do relaxation exercises and I do this so I can really try to feel the emotions.

Out all the productions you’ve done thus far what are you most proud of?

There are a couple I think. I’m really proud of right now that I’m doing a play and that it’s an original play. It’s something that hasn’t been written on paper before. It’s something the Director came up with and I’ve never done that. So that’s something that I’m really proud of right now. I’m also really proud of the fact that I’m writing a script that we will be able to shoot as well.

What’s your favorite part of acting?

It’s me in front of the camera….

If you can help me ask you any question on the planet what would it be and how would you answer it?

That’s a hard one….Do I like comedy? The answer would be yes!!!c I love comedy and I would love to do something like SNL.
