We are happy to spend some time today with the talented artist Teyquil. Thank you for taking time to talk with us. We have listened to “Girlz on Bikes” and love what you are doing. How did you decide this as your next release?
Well, I just like to say thanks a million for listening to the song. This is one that’s really dear to me and I enjoyed recording and producing this track a lot. My decision on making this song my next single was pretty much a no brainer. The weather is breaking as it is getting warmer, flowers are blooming, outdoor events are being held and the girls are allowing their beauty to show without the assistance of extra clothing. As far as the song, the track possesses a nice thick bass, there’s dark beautiful synths looming throughout the song and I’m obsessed about that lol… There’s distorted guitars, abstract whispers that add to the emotion and most of all, harmonies that captivate lightning in a bottle in real time. I think these are reasons why I chose “Girlz on Bikes” as my next single and I couldn’t be more happier with this decision in doing so.
This single has had such a warm welcome. As an artist attempting to make a connection with audiences, how does the warm reception feel?
Ya know, I’m pretty surprised by it, but oh so grateful that people are really into it at the same time. It feels so surreal that people are actually into my music but I’m humbled/blessed to witness what I’ve dreamed of doing all my life is being recognized and so well received from an audience.
If you had to – how would you classify your music?
Great question! I guess, if I had to classify it, I would identify it as interchangeable, unpredictable, and emotionally charged, I feel that it falls under the umbrella of a few genres but indie pop is the category that I find my music to be most active.
What is the best concert you have been to? What do you like most about playing live?
The best concert that I’ve been to in the last couple of years would have to be the MC5 concert. Guitarist, Wayne Kramer is amazing and never disappoints. I’d love to see him shred a guitar again someday soon. Now that we’re on the topic of concerts, I do have a wish and it is to see the legendary Angus Young from AC/DC in his schoolboy uniform killing the guitar while moving uncontrollably, but awesomely smooth and efficient. What I love most about playing live is watching the audience engage in what I’m conveying to them. I really love witnessing true genuine music lovers getting connected and enjoying being in the moment along with me.
How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?
Another great question! I feel that I’ve evolved in so many ways. One of them is promoting myself in regards to my career. It feels good being the driver in the front seat and no longer a passenger. I conduct my own meetings with other creatives, I handle my own budgeting, I run my own social media promotions, I release my own music on my terms, I manage my own copyrights and keep up with data through the MLC regularly and so on. By doing this consistently, it truly gives me a sense of independence and allows for my growth as an artist to evolve on so many levels. In the last year, I have surprised myself and I am so proud of my accomplishments thus far.
Musically, who are you listening to and enjoying right now?
One great question after another! I’m listening to so many these days that I admire the past and present. Right now, I’m obsessing over Haim, Sasha Sloan, The Stooges, Troye Sivan, Mallrat, The Queers, Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers, Sigrid, and of course, Robyn! So yeah, there’s a few. Hahahaha.

O.M.G!! You’re a master at asking great questions. The one item I keep refrigerated is FISH!!!!! I love fish! LOL…
