Kate Hudson Just “Realized It’s Time” to Release an Album

Kate Hudson is making a big career change, announcing that she is in the midst of recording her first album.

On Tuesday, the actor posted two pictures of herself to Instagram and in the snapshots, she’s being filmed while singing with a band in a rehearsal space. “Finally realized it’s time to say f#%! it and saaaannngg!!!!! #albumincoming #myikigai,” she wrote alongside the images. “Ikigai” is the Japanese concept for something that gives your life purpose.

Hudson’s affinity for music makes sense as her father, William Louis Hudson Jr., is also a vocalist, performing from the ’60s through the early 1980s with his siblings, Brett and Mark, as The Hudson Brothers. And though this marks the Golden Globe winner’s first album, it’s not her first time singing in front of an audience. In 2003’s How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Hudson performed “You’re So Vain” alongside Matthew McConaughey and, in 2009, shel also sang “Cinema Italiano” in the movie musical Nine.

Hudson also appeared in five episodes of Glee as dance instructor Cassandra July. In that role, she performed a number of songs, including Chicago‘s “All That Jazz,” a mashup up of Lady Gaga‘s “Americano” and Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull‘s “Dance Again,” and Stevie Wonder‘s “Upright (Everything’s Alright).” She recently sang several songs on the soundtrack of Sia‘s controversial film Music. And most recently, she blew Jimmy Fallon‘s mind during an appearance on his game show That’s My Jam by performing a doo-wop rendition of Ariana Grande‘s “7 Rings.”
