John Corbett and Bo Derek Secretly Got Married After Almost 20 Years Together

The couple said they wanted to “get one nice thing out of” 2020.

After almost 20 years together, John Corbett and Bo Derek decided to take their relationship to the next level and tie the knot so that they could say at least one good thing happened in 2020.

During an appearance on The Talk on Tuesday, the Sex and the City actor broke the big news to his friend and the show’s co-host, Jerry O’Connell. Corbett said, “Jerry I can’t believe that I forgot to tell you that around Christmastime we got married. Bo and I got married!” He continued, “We’re pretty private people, we didn’t make an announcement, all our friends and family knew but this is the first time either one of us has said anything publicly about it because really we haven’t had an opportunity. So, you’re my buddy and now I guess I’m telling all of America, or the world.”

As for why they decided to wed after being together for so long instead of going the Goldie HawnKurt Russell route, the actor explained, “After 20 years we decided to get married, we didn’t want 2020 to be that thing that everybody looks back at and hated. We thought, ‘Well, let’s get one nice thing out of it.’” The couple first started dating in 2002 after they were set up by Corbett’s friend, Hollywood agent Norby Walters. The My Big Fat Greek Wedding star told Today in 2015 of how he and his new wife met, “I said, ‘I’m not dating anyone,’ and [Walters] said, ‘I’ll get you a date, Corbett!’ And he set me up with Bo. I was very intimidated!”

But Derek told Fox News in April 2020 that there was no need for Corbett to be intimidated as they both knew their connection was something special from the start. “It was just an attraction, a comfort,” she said. “He makes me laugh all the time. He’s full of life, full of joy. I became attracted to him and I still am. We take things day by day and I think we are still there. We’re starting to get a little more settled.” She added about their decision to hold off on marriage, “I think when you’re beginning a young family and you’re going to have children and set up this new family tree branch, it’s obviously a wonderful commitment and it’s meaningful. But for us in our lives, it hasn’t been yet.”
