Isaiah Stokes, who has appeared on Law & Order: SVU, The Americans, and the sixth season of Power, has been indicted for the murder of 37-year-old Tyrone Jones. On Friday, the 41-year-old actor was charged with second-degree murder and two second-degree counts of criminal possession of a weapon, according to a press release from the Queens District Attorney’s Office.
Stokes is accused of fatally shooting a man in Queens, New York, on February 7. Video surveillance from that day shows Stokes exiting a vehicle before allegedly unloading 11 gunshots into a parked white Jeep Grand Cherokee, hitting Jones who later died of his injuries. The fatal shooting took place in broad daylight and about a mile and a half from where the victim reportedly lived. Representatives for Stokes have not publicly commented on the charges. Further details about a possible motive for the shooting are not yet available.
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said, “The defendant is accused of unloading nearly eleven shots during this brazen afternoon shooting. Gun violence is all too prevalent in our neighborhoods. We will not allow it to become the norm.”
The actor’s next court date is on Monday, July 19. If convicted of the charges, Stokes faces up to 25 years to life in prison.
