Don’t worry, Bayonetta 3 ‘still exists’, say Nintendo after hack and slash game’s E3 no-show

Bayonetta 2. (Nintendo)

Don’t worry Bayonetta fans: Bayonetta 3 is definitely on the way.

There was a distinct lack of fierce witch queen action at Nintendo’s E3 Direct, which left many fans disappointed.

But Gamespot’s Tamoor Hussain interviewed Nate Bihldorff and Bill Trinen of Nintendo Treehouse who both confirmed the existence of the hack and slash sequel.

When asked “Where is Bayonetta 3?”, Bihldorff laughed and replied: “It definitely still exists, I can confirm it.”

Trinen then followed up:  “I will even go one further and say that not only does it exist, but it’s progressing well.

“We like to show things when we’re ready to show them, and certainly, we like to show things when the developer is ready to show them.

“We didn’t have it here at E3 but stay tuned.”

When exactly we’ll find out more is unknown, but fingers crossed we won’t have to wait long.

Bayonetta 3 was first revealed in 2017 at The Game Awards with a teaser trailer, with the game coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch. Nothing more has been heard since.

The original game came out worldwide in 2010 on Xbox 360 and PS3, with a sequel following on the Switch in 2014.

The games follow the story of Bayonetta, an Umbran Witch who battles the holy angelic forces of Paradiso.

Her hyper feminine image and eccentric sass has made her a favourite in the LGBT+ community. After all, not only does she have guns on her feet, her skin-tight outfit is in fact made of her hair which she utilises for special summoning attacks, leaving her naked in the process.

Though her image has been seen by some as controversial – is she a celebration of femininity or created for the male gaze? – the series is known for its tight, frenetic combat that’s accessible but hard to master.
