John Mulaney and Annamarie Tendler Announce They Are Divorcing After Six Years of Marriage

The comedian, who recently announced his first shows after a rehab stay, asked Tendler for a divorce about three months ago, according to Page Six.

Last week, comedian John Mulaney announced his return to live comedy after checking himself into rehab in December 2020. On Monday, Page Six reported that Mulaney asked his wife of six years, makeup artist and designer Annamarie Tendler, for a divorce about three months ago.

Mulaney’s spokesperson confirmed the divorce, adding that “John will not have any further comment as he continues to focus on his recovery and getting back to work.” The couple was married in July 2014, and their relationship was an occasional subject of Mulaney’s stand-up comedy sets. Tendler also served as a makeup artist on Oh, Hello, Mulaney’s Broadway show with Nick Kroll.

“I am heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage,” Tendler said through a spokesperson. “I wish him support and success as he continues his recovery.”

When Mulaney checked into rehab for drug and alcohol addiction in December, a source told Us Weekly that the pandemic caused him to struggle with his sobriety. “It was a relief to his wife and family that he checked in,” the source said. “It was John’s decision. Plain and simple, John had too much downtime [in quarantine]. He had too much time in his own head.”

He exited the program in February and began seeking outpatient care, according to Page Six. Last week, he announced a series of shows at Manhattan’s City Winery called John Mulaney: From Scratch, and tickets sold out within the day. The first of five takes place on Monday night.
