During August, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall enjoyed a trip to Balmoral, Queen Elizabeth’s Scottish estate, but this week they both got back to work. Camilla has kept especially busy, debuting a new form of PPE at a Buckinghamshire event with medical dogs on Wednesday before heading to an elementary school to discuss the importance of literacy. Then she headed back to Scotland on Thursday for a visit to HM Naval Base Clyde to celebrate the 10th anniversary of a submarine she launched back in 2010.
In a speech, she admitted that one of her wishes back then had not come true. “On that day, I half-jokingly wondered if I would ever join you for a dive,” she said. “While that has not yet proved possible—somewhat to my relief!—I have taken an enormous interest in your work over the past decade.” She also spoke about the great respect Winston Churchill had for men who took posts on submarines during wartime.
Though Camilla wasn’t photographed wearing a mask or a face shield on this visit, she did mention another COVID-19 precaution during her remarks. “I am only sorry that today I am unable to shake each of you by the hand to express my gratitude, but sadly that will have to wait until the Covid restrictions have lifted,” she said.
Later in the day, she visited a therapy farm in Aberdeenshire, where she was given a bouquet of wildflowers, and on Friday, Charles did his own engagement at a community fridge in Scotland. In addition to her busy work schedule, she is getting back to her social life. On Wednesday night, Camilla was spotted on her way to a dinner at the private club Oswald’s along with a few friends.
