Adele just gave an update on the release date for her new album, and the singer appears to be backtracking on her promise earlier this year that the release of new music was imminent.
On Friday, the singer posted on Instagram about the book Untamed by Glennon Doyle which she promised “will shake your brain and make your soul scream.” In the comments, a fan asked the question foremost in everyone’s mind, “Adele where’s the album?” The pop star replied, “I honestly have no idea.”
Back in February, however, while performing at her best friend Laura Dockrill‘s wedding, Adele told the crowd to “expect my album in September” in an Instagram video taken at the event. Of course, that was the plan before a global pandemic came along and changed everything. In June, the singer posted a photo of herself singing, prompting a fan to ask “Teaser? Albums coming out today???!!!! Tell me now!!!!” to which she replied, “Of course it’s not. Corona ain’t over. I’m quarantining. Wear a mask and be patient.”
Her manager, Jonathan Dickins, also confirmed that the timeline for Adele’s new tunes has been delayed indefinitely, telling Music Week, “It isn’t coming in September, it’ll be ready when it’s ready. We’re all in the same boat, you’re doing stuff and then all of a sudden, the world stops. It’ll come when it’s ready. I can’t put a date on that yet. We have music, but we’re still working.” It’s been five years since the release of Adele’s previous album, 25.
At this rate, Adele and Rihanna should probably just join forces and release an album together so that all of their fans can finally have some peace of mind.
