Well, it was too good to be true. The suggestion of Junji Ito actually working with Hideo Kojima on his rumoured horror game turned out to be a case of Ito overstating what Kojima had said.
After the frenzy generated over the weekend by Ito saying that Kojima was working on a horror game, and had personally asked Ito if he was interested in collaborating, it turns out that this was all over a remark made at a party that was mistranslated.
“In a past interview, I said casually that I received an offer from Mr. Kojima, but in reality, it was a remark made at a party where he said, “If there is an opportunity, I may ask for your help”. I apologize to Mr. Kojima and all of the fans to whom I may have given false hope.

To be fair, Ito did originally say through a translator that Kojima Productions may be developing a horror game, and that there was no official agreement for Ito to become involved. However, as pointed out in the previous story, there may be some hope (thanks to that GDT tweet), so we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed and hope that the collaboration happens at some point.
