The Telltale Clue That Meghan and Harry Are Enjoying Tyler Perry’s Art Collection

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are reportedly spending the lockdown in the Beverly Hills house of Tyler Perry, and in the videos they’ve recently filmed for charity, the mansion’s tan walls have seemingly appeared in the background. Even though the pair is no longer officially part of the royal family, they have continued to support many of the causes they once supported in the name of Queen Elizabeth, including mental health crisis services. On Wednesday, the couple made a joint video call to a meeting of the Crisis Text Line branch in Atlanta, and a screenshot from the call gives even more insight into the place the couple are now calling home.

According to an employee, the call from Meghan and Harry was unexpected. “It’s not every day that Meghan and Harry jump into your staff meeting & champion the work you do,” staff member Ricky Neal said in an Instagram post he later deleted, according to the Daily Mail.

On the call, Meghan and Harry are in a dark room in front of a large painting. Because of the angle, the art is a little hard to make out, but it has the telltale stark lines, dark-skinned figures, and skewed perspective of famed African-American painter Jacob Lawrence, an artist Perry has purchased in the past. Perry is an avid collector of black art and once found himself in a bidding war with Blue Ivy Carter at Tina Knowles Lawson’s annual auction. His manager, Arthur Primas, is also a preeminent collector of Lawrence’s work.

In a video interview with TMZ, Perry didn’t display his art collection, but he did show off his love for leather couches and unusual lamps. The 8-bedroom house is on a hilltop at about 800 feet elevation, and it has a fence and guard tower. But even Perry’s normal precautions were reportedly not enough for Harry and Meghan. This week, Tatler reported that the couple added privacy screens when hiking trails around the mansion were recently reopened.
