A recent Season 22 episode, “Skyfall,” followed the midseason finale’s cliffhanger, which saw Dr. Jo Wilson’s heart go out amid an emergency C-section on her twins. This left her new husband, Carmack’s Link, to handle his babies’ care as he and the rest of the doctors hoped Jo would wake up.

This had also been one of various challenging moments for Link, a normally enthusiastic character who tries to avoid stress. Back in Season 21, Link had even survived an explosion at the hospital as Jo’s pregnancy complications came to light.

Carmack Was Also Asked About What Could Be Happening Next On The Show

Speaking with The Wrap, Carmack shared, “It’s one of the most emotional pieces of television I’ve personally been a part of.” The actor also called the challenge to play the character amid such emotional turmoil a “gift.”

Carmack admitted that all of these challenges have even gotten him concerned for the characters. However, one of the series’ showrunners reassured him how the story would play out.

The actor shared, “I didn’t know where that was going, but [showrunner Meg Marinis] assured me. She said, ‘Trust me, this is going to pay off,’ and it did in such a big way … that story had been so thoughtfully and meticulously crafted.”

During the recent episode, Link had big scenes with Teddy and Richard. Both also faced issues during the story, revealing a prostate cancer diagnosis to Bailey. However, things ended on a hopeful note, with his babies showing signs of improvement. Jo also opened up her eyes in the final shot.

During the interview, Carmack was also asked about what could happen next. In the moment, the actor shared, “For Link and Jo, obviously, we have to find out how Jo’s doing. We have to find out how the babies are doing. This is No. 1 priority. It’s all been so intense.”

The actor felt that Link still needs to process all that has happened to him, including his injuries. He continued, “So, I think everybody’s going to have to take a step back and examine their priorities. And that’s going to be its own battle.”
