Hozier Covers The Pogues’ “Fairytale of New York” on SNL

Hozier staged a special performance of The Pogues’ holiday classic “Fairytale of New York” during Saturday Night Live’s Christmas show.

While the original song saw The Pogues’ Shane MacGowan trading verses with the equally iconic Kirsty MacColl, Andrew Hozier-Byrne opted to perform a version featuring three different female vocalists: Melissa McMillan, Rachel Beauregard, and Kamilah. Hozier’s SNL performance also featured a revised fifth verse that sanitized some of the song’s controversial lyrics.

Earlier in the episode, Hozier performed his blockbuster single, “Too Sweet.” Watch both performances below.

The SNL Christmas episode also saw host Martin Show join the Five-Timers Club in a star-studded cold opening featuring om Hanks, Paul Rudd, Melissa McCarthy, Tina Fey, John Mulaney, Alec Baldwin, Emma Stone, Scarlett Johansson, Kristen Wiig, and Jimmy Fallon. Plus, Weekend Update anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che did their annual Joke Swap.
