Nascar Legend Bobby Allison Dead At Age 86

Nascar legend Bobby Allison has died at the age of 86. He is a founding member of NASCAR’s legendary “Alabama Gang.” Allison is known for how great he was on the track with actually winning 85 races during his career.

Bobby Allison’s Career

Bobby Allison had an amazing career, but back in 1988, he had a career-ending race. It happened at Pocono. You can see the video down below at the end of the article. Allison also earned 446 top-10 finishes and 59 poles during his career in Nascar. Fans loved to watch him race even though things would get heated from time to time. In 1988 at Daytona, he even beat his son in a race, which was a lot of fun for him.

He was a member of NASCAR’s second Hall of Fame class in 2011. He won the Daytona 500 actually five times.

Allison has dealt with a lot of heartbreak over the years. Two of his sons passed away before him in tragic accidents. Bobby Allison had his own accident that could have taken his life, but luckily didn’t.

Death Of Allison

Nascar.com shared the details of Bobby Allison’s death. He passed away on Saturday at the age of 86. His health has been declining for a few years, but the cause of death hasn’t been revealed. He died at home in Mooresville, North Carolina. His family shared the following statement.

“Bobby was the ultimate fan’s driver. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his fans and would stop to sign autographs and have conversations with them everywhere he went. He was a dedicated family man and friend, and a devout Catholic.”

NASCAR Chairman Jim France said in a statement, “Bobby Allison personified the term ‘racer.’ Though he is best known as one of the winningest drivers in NASCAR Cup Series history, his impact on the sport extends far beyond the record books.” The statements coming out about him show what an amazing racer he was in his days.
