Chariah Gordon had no idea that one impromptu photo she took with pals Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce would take the world by storm.
“I just thought that we looked cute and I posted it,” Gordon, who is engaged to Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman Jr., said in an interview with People published on Tuesday, November 5. Gordon was referring to the iconic photo of Swift, 34, kissing Kelce, 35 — the first photo of the pair showing some PDA. “I didn’t have [any] thought into it, honestly. I didn’t know that it was going to be that big.”
In September 2023, Gordon and Hardman, 26, were hanging out with Swift and Kelce following a Chiefs game shortly after Swift and Kelce went public with their relationship. The couples posed for pics together and Gordon shared them on her social media.
“I had no expectations,” she explained. “I just really honestly posted because we had a good time and it was a really nice photo.”
One snap in particular caught the eye of fans. In the now-viral photo, Swift gave the tight end a kiss on the cheek — one of the first moments fans got to see the new couple be publicly affectionate.
“I didn’t know that I was breaking the internet!” she joked to the outlet. “I was oblivious to all of that.”
After the photo started popping up everywhere on social media, Gordon confessed that she initially “freaked out” about it.
“It kind of made me feel like in a sense, I did something wrong,” she admitted. “But I know I didn’t because it’s just a nice photo.”
Gordon shared that she was “not thinking” when she posted the photo and didn’t realize it would garner a lot of attention. However, she was amused by the Swifties in her comments thanking her for the pics.
“When they say that, it cracks me up because I’m literally just living my life,” she reflected. “I am not purposely like, ‘Oh, hey, let me feed them.’ I’m just enjoying myself — but I do love the Swifties! They show me nothing but love and I appreciate it because it is genuine all the way around the board.”
Since Gordon’s viral moment, she and Swift have grown closer as they spend more time together while attending Chiefs games. Earlier this year, Gordon and Swift recreated the iconic photo with their partners. Gordon shared that the follow-post was “something to redo that special moment in time that was all shared together.”
This month, Gordon attended Swift’s Eras Tour stop in Indianapolis to show her support for the pop star.
“Go sister!!!!!” Gordon wrote via her Instagram Story at the time alongside footage of Swift performing during the Lover era of the show.
