As part of her play for GOP voters, Vice President Kamala Harris is going somewhere she’s never really gone before: Fox News. The network’s chief political anchor Bret Baier will conduct the interview slated for October 16, the network announced Monday, marking the Democratic nominee’s first formal sit-down with the news outlet.
The Harris campaign slammed Donald Trump on Monday, after the interview was announced, calling out the former president’s media strategy. “As of today, it has been **one month** since Trump’s been interviewed by a mainstream media outlet, as he has backed out of 60 Minutes and refuses to debate again,” Harris campaign spokesman Ian Sams wrote on social media. “Meanwhile Harris is willing to even go on Fox.”

Trump has refused to appear on less friendly outlets and networks as the election approaches, speaking mostly to politically aligned anchors like Maria Bartiromo on Fox News. Just this month, he pulled out of a CBS News 60 Minutes interview that was a part of the program’s election special, complaining about the fact-checking CBS News would do to complement the interview. Trump had initially agreed to participate in the sit-down, which has been a standing tradition for candidates in a presidential election cycle.Kam
CNN also proposed an additional debate date for the two candidates. In consistent form, Harris agreed to participate and Trump refused. Then, in lieu of the debate programming, the network offered to host town hall events with both candidates, which Harris said she’d participate in.
With Harris’s Fox News announcement, both the vice president and former president will appear on the network on the same day, in somewhat duelling appearances. Trump was already scheduled to appear on the network on Wednesday in a town hall event moderated by Harris Faulkner which is set to focus on issues impacting women ahead of the election.
