Superman & Lois is set to return this October in its final season after wrapping up last season with a cliffhanger.
Season 3 left us with some serious questions — and heart palpations — after seeing Superman in a weak state.
The show was initially planned to run for seven seasons — yes, seven seasons! But it will say goodbye in Season 4.
It was a lofty goal, and sadly, it won’t come to fruition — not because the show lacked substance, heart, or talent.
But, because The CW has once again decided to scrap much of its original content as it attempts to travel in a whole new direction — once again (ugh)! That whole debacle is a discussion for another day.
Despite the sad news that Superman & Lois is ending earlier than planned, showrunners Todd Helbing and Brent Fletcher have decided to go out with a bang. Of course, this is why we love them!
The Death of Superman
Most productions wouldn’t be so bold. But this show plans to tackle the death of Superman. It’s an iconic storyline straight out of the comics.
The death of Superman is a large undertaking, but we think the series can pull off its own reimagining of Superman and Doomsday’s most epic battle.
The last surviving CW-inspired comic book series has been gutsy from the start, bringing Clark Kent back to our TV screens weekly as a husband and father.
Superman & Lois Through The Seasons
It’s a version of Superman we have yet to see. The show has made itself interesting and unique with its family drama and fresh new storylines while staying true to what makes Superman great at his core.
And we can’t forget Lois — her character, depicted similarly to Lois in the comics, has been great with her relentless pursuit of truth and justice.
Season 1 jumped right into Clark, his Kryptonian powers, and if they would be passed down to his sons, Jonathan and Jordan.
I have always wondered how a Superman storyline like this could play out.
The arc didn’t have a fairytale ending. It was realistic. Jordan possessed his powers organically, while Jonathan did not.
During the freshman season, he also featured a ruthless Morgan Edge trying to take over Smallville. We were also introduced to a town full of characters with engaging backstories.
By Season 2, the show had gained traction with its Bizarro storyline, scoring its highest ratings to date.
Aside from introducing some iconic villains, Superman & Lois made their mark with great production quality!
Season 4 To Feature Core Cast Only
The action scenes are impressive for a 60-minute weekly drama, making us eager to see how they’ll top the past three seasons with a finale.
Superman & Lois was forced to make some hard decisions for Season 4 and with budget constraints. Who will appear? How will the story end?
Most of the cast will not return in a regular capacity, with only its core characters set to appear in most episodes. We are hearing that even Clark won’t be in every episode but will appear in flashbacks.
Fans who have fallen in love with Lana Lang, Sarah and Kyle, General Lane, and the rest of the characters of Smallville will have to adjust. A beloved character’s death is also rumored to take place in Season 4.
The good news is that while the supporting cast won’t be in every episode, we will get to say goodbye. They will each appear in at least one episode so we can learn their characters’ fates.
Considering what the showrunners have shared and the show’s history, Season 4 should be a must-see.
Superman & Doomsday Battle To Continue
The last time we saw Superman, he was battling it out far above Earth with an indestructible Doomsday. Or at least we think he is indestructible after what Lex Luthor did to him.
Let’s be real, though. Superman will find a way — he always does! But how he gets there will be exciting to watch.
Superman turned Doomsday into a popsicle underwater before impaling him on a rod in the air. Just when we thought it was over and Superman won the battle, Doomsday was ready to fight again.
It was a tough scene to watch after the fight resumed. Superman was thrown around like a rag doll. He lay limp and lifeless on the subway tracks, Doomsday pounding on his chest.
It was Lois saying his name that helped Clark manage a second wind. The montage that followed was heartbreaking. Clark was dragged through the sky as he pictured Lois, his sons, and all that he loved.
Minutes before the credits rolled, Superman and Doomsday were ready to fight another round. So, where do we go from here?
Superman & Lois Season 4 Teasers
Season 4 will feature ten episodes, and the showrunners are teasing that they plan to do something no other show has done. We have no idea what this is, but it’s an exciting concept.
And while this news is exciting, it’s also evasive. Still, we are sure of a few things.
With Superman’s imminent death, Lois will have to be at her strongest. We are confident she will play a role in his resurrection. Jordan, too! He has to, right?
But will they need to lean on Smallville for help and support in the process, with Clark’s true identity exposed?
Can it be October 7 already? We are ready for the premiere! You can watch it on The CW.
