Geena Davis and More Join Netflix Series “The Boroughs”

Up next from Netflix and Executive Producers The Duffer Brothers (“Stranger Things”) is the supernatural mystery series “The Boroughs.” Today, Netflix announced that Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O’Hare, Clarke Peters, and Bill Pullman are set to star.

Here’s the logline for the upcoming sci-fi series, which sounds like a mixture of “Stranger Things” and Cocoon. Senior citizens saving the world from an otherworldly threat? We’re in.

“In a seemingly picturesque retirement community in the New Mexico desert, a group of unlikely heroes must band together to stop an otherworldly threat from stealing the one thing they don’t have… time.”

Character names have been revealed, too:

  • Alfred Molina (Spider-Man: No Way Home, Three Pines) plays “Sam”

  • Geena Davis (Beetlejuice, A League of Their Own) plays “Renee”

  • Alfre Woodard (Clemency, Salem’s Lot) plays “Judy”

  • Denis O’Hare (American Horror Story, This Is Us) plays “Wally”

  • Clarke Peters (Da 5 Bloods, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) plays “Art”

  • Bill Pullman (The Sinner, Independence Day) plays “Jack”

Ben Taylor (Sex Education, Catastrophe) will serve as Executive Producer and will direct multiple episodes including the pilot. Eight episodes have been ordered, with Hilary Leavitt also Executive Producing. The project is from the Duffer Brothers x Netflix collaboration label Upside Down Pictures.

“The Boroughs” marks the latest series under Netflix’s overall deal with Upside Down Pictures which includes the expansion of the Stranger Things franchise with the critically acclaimed, Olivier Award-winning play Stranger Things: The First Shadow, the psychological horror series “Something Very Bad is Going to Happen,” and “Stranger Things 5.”

The Duffer Brothers previously said in a statement, “We’ve been fans of Jeff and Will’s writing for a long time, and when they pitched us their idea for The Boroughs, we immediately knew they had something very special on their hands. While the heroes in The Boroughs have a few more years on them than the kids from Stranger Things, they are a similarly lovable bunch of misfits, and we can’t wait for you to join them on an adventure that is at turns scary, funny, and deeply touching.”

Expect to hear a lot more about “The Boroughs” in the coming months.
