Snapped: Reinier Zonneveld’s R² AI Live Music Project (A Photo Essay)

In a world where music and AI are largely at odds, techno DJ/Producer/Instrumentalist Reinier Zonneveld found a way to celebrate and bolster his artistic vision via AI, rather than diminish it. Through a groundbreaking two hour set at R² Festival at the Amsterdam-adjacent Spaarnwoude, Zonneveld went back to back with his computer counterpart, the R² AI model. As the project explains it, “The unique R² live music AI was trained on over 2000 hours of Reinier Zonneveld’s original music and recordings from more than 1000 live shows spanning the artist’s illustrious 15-year career.”

Also appearing at R² Festival was a roster of legendary and rising house and techno artists as well as a stage dedicated to the underground rave scene. See all of the sights and sounds in our photo essay below. Images courtesy of Tijmen Berens.
