Nine Inch Nails Tapped For ‘Tron: Ares’ Film Score

Nine Inch Nails will follow in the footsteps of electronic music legends Wendy Carlos and Daft Punk when they score the upcoming third film in the Tron franchise, Tron: Ares, which will be released Oct. 10, 2025.

The news was revealed yesterday (Aug. 9) during Disney’s annual D23 fan event in Anaheim, Ca., which also offered the first clips of footage from Tron: Ares. The movie stars Jared Leto, Jeff Bridges, Greta Lee and Even Peters in the follow-up to 2010’s Tron: Legacy, itself a long-in-the-works sequel to the classic 1982 original film.

Daft Punk’s score for Tron: Legacy was a massive hit, reaching No. 4 on The Billboard 200 and selling more than a million copies in the United States, according to the Recording Industry Association of America. Carlos penned the score for the original movie.

Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor and longtime collaborator Atticus Ross, who joined the band in 2016, won the Academy Award for Best Original Score in 2011 for The Social Network and again 2021 for Soul in tandem with Jon Batiste. They have also worked together on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Challengers and Mank.

“Technology and AI is omnipresent in our of our lives,” Bridges said yesterday of the upcoming film’s theme. “What a perfect time to revisit this world. Or, have this world visit us, because that’s what happens in this movie.”
