Universal Pictures will develop a feature film based on Britney Spears‘ hit 2023 memoir The Woman in Me, according to reports. The project will be developed by director Jon M. Chu and producer Marc Platt.
Spears alluded to the news on social media, saying Platt has “always made my favorite movies.” The latter is known for producing such films as the Legally Blonde franchise, Drive, La La Land and The Girl on the Train. He is also teaming with Chu on the two-installment movie adaptation of Wicked, the first of which will be released Nov. 22, with the second coming Nov. 26, 2025.
The Woman in Me was a huge success upon its release last October, selling a reported 2.5 million copies in the United States. The book details her rise from The Mickey Mouse Club to teenage pop superstardom, as well as her relationship with Justin Timberlake and the troubled period where she was placed under a conservatorship. The accompanying audiobook was said to be the fastest seller in the history of Simon & Schuster.
For Universal, the project extends their strong track record with music-related films, including the 2015 N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton.
