Growing up with parents in the music industry deeply connected DJ and producer NOMIS to music from a young age. It became clear to him, early on, that he wanted to be the one “behind the decks” where he could create music that would make people dance and inspire happiness. This compulsion has helped shape him into the artist he is today.
Born and raised in France, NOMIS’s passion for music has never wavered. At 10 years old, he received his first set of turntables and began to practice DJing. A computer soon followed, upon which he learned to create and produce music. At 17, he moved to Paris and began DJing in bars, restaurants, and clubs. His talents gradually established NOMIS as a notable DJ for fashion weeks and major events, such as opening sets for artists like Diplo, Who Made Who, Moojo, and Carlita.
After becoming a reference DJ in the Parisian nightlife scene, NOMIS launched his own event called ANCORA: a weekly residency that took place at the MATIGNON club in Paris. The event has been running successfully every Wednesday for three years.
It was at the age of 26 that NOMIS’s career reached new heights. Among worldwide tours spanning Asia, Latin America, Canada, and Europe, he honed in on NOMIS Afro house music. In October 2023, he released his first single, “ERA,” on the MOS Label, followed by “Killi” on the Wired label. Nevertheless, it was in April 2024 that he achieved a major breakthrough with the release of “Kabe,” a record that features NOMIS (FR) Francis Mercier, and the legendary African voice of NOMIS (FR) Salif Keita. It has since garnered over a million streams on Spotify.
NOMIS DJ has been inspired by artists like Daft Punk, Butch, and Cassius. However, with his passion leading him toward Afro-house music, he states that artists such as Black Coffee and Erick Morillo became his biggest inspirations.
After all, NOMIS has faced challenges in today’s music industry, especially in the Afro-house scene. He describes them as “recognition and visibility.”
“There are many talented artists, but breaking through and making a name for yourself is extremely challenging,” NOMIS states. “It was a major hurdle to connect with industry figures and earn their recognition and respect.”
However, years of hard work and dedication, as well as showing respect and supporting others, have been instrumental to NOMIS’s success.
NOMIS’s future aspirations include festivals that he has always dreamed of playing, including ULTRA MUSIC MIAMI, as well as clubs like Pacha Ibiza. He describes these goals as having been among his “biggest aspirations since I first started.”
In the coming weeks, NOMIS will be heading on a summer tour across Europe. He will play in Ibiza at the famous Lio Ibiza then return to Saint Tropez for Casa Amour. He’ll also have a set at the new SOLUNA Festival in Corsica and will then perform in Portugal, Greece, Tunisia, Spain, and more.
NOMIS’s upbeat music displays his hard work and dedication to his craft, which he has been perfecting from a young age. With new music to come later this year, fans of upbeat Afro-house music should head over to Spotify and follow NOMIS now.
