Pete Buttigieg concisely explains why he doesn’t trust Trump’s disavowal of a federal abortion ban

Out Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg appeared on Fox News Sunday where he got into an argument with the Fox host about Donald Trump’s claim that he wouldn’t sign a federal abortion ban, and he just started listing out lies that Trump has told. The Fox host interviewing him tried to stop him, but he just kept on going.

Host Shannon Noelle Bream and Buttigieg were discussing abortion and the 2024 presidential election. Buttigieg noted that Trump appointed the Supreme Court justices that overturned Roe v. Wade in order to keep a campaign promise to end Roe, and he said that it was one of the few promises that Trump kept.

“He didn’t keep his promise of 6% economic growth,” Buttigieg said as he started to list the promises that Trump didn’t keep. Buttigieg was referring to statements Trump made in 2015 where he claimed that his tax cuts would lead to three to six percent yearly economic growth. “He didn’t keep his promise to drain the swamp…”

“He had the pandemic to deal with,” Bream interrupted.

“Even before the pandemic, America went into a manufacturing recession, which really hurt places like where I come from in the industrial Midwest,” Buttigieg responded.

Bream tried to interrupt him again, but he continued: “My point is, his promise for economic growth, he broke his promise to pass an infrastructure bill, right? He said he would do that, he failed to do it, the Biden-Harris administration got it done. He even broke his promise to that January 6th mob when he said, ‘I will be at your side when you march down to the Capitol.’”

“But he actually did keep two promises,” Buttigieg continued. “He kept his promise to destroy the right to choose in this country, and he kept his promise on tax cuts to the rich.

“And if you wanna know what a second Trump term would be like, I would start by looking at those rare promises that he actually managed to keep.”

“He did say that he wanted to get rid of Roe v. Wade, but again, send it to the states, where they are-” Bream started saying.

“Yeah, give the power to the states to eliminate women’s access to abortion,” Buttigieg responded. “And of course, as you know, the Republican party continues to be interested in a national abortion ban-“

Bream pointed out that Trump has said that he does not support a federal abortion ban – which is true, although the running mate he picked supports federal interventions to stop people from crossing state lines to get abortions.

“I don’t believe him,” Buttigieg responded succinctly, “because he lies all the time.”
