Lauren Boebert called “racist” for saying Karine Jean-Pierre is a “DEI hire”

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) is getting called out on social media after she called out White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre a “DEI hire,” a term that many consider racist.

Over the past year, many on the right have started using the expression “DEI” (diversity, equity, and inclusion) as a racial slur for Black people.

Boebert called Biden’s bill with upgrades to rail infrastructure “garbage.” Now she’s mad that trains aren’t working properly.

This past March, when a cargo ship ran into a bridge in Baltimore, causing the bridge to collapse, conservatives started calling Baltimore’s Black mayor, Brandon Scott (D), a “DEI mayor,” even though he had nothing to do with the boat hitting the bridge and he is an elected official.

And it was just one of the more prominent examples of “DEI” being used to effectively mean “Black” in a pejorative sense in the first part of this year. Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) and Maryland Port Commissioner Karenthia Barber, who are both Black, were also labeled as agents of DEI, and Scott said that “DEI” has become the new term for people who “don’t have the courage to say the N-word.”

Now Boebert – a high school dropout who has been involved in a series of what would be considered, in other periods of U.S. history, career-ending scandals – is calling Columbia University grad Jean-Pierre a “DEI hire.” Jean-Pierre is Black.

“I couldn’t care less about what [Jean-Pierre] has to say today,” Boebert wrote on X yesterday, referring to Jean-Pierre’s White House press briefing.

“It’s between 10am-4pm which means ‘President’ Joe Biden supposedly should be coherent enough to take a few questions from the press,” she wrote, referring to anonymous reports that Biden is most active before 4 p.m.

“Instead, Americans are supposed to listen to the discredited DEI hire. PASS.”

“At this point it’s evident what they mean by ‘DEI,’ right?” MSNBC’s Joy Reid said in March. “It means Black people… It’s not fashionable to be openly racist anymore in America… so referring to a Black mayor as a DEI mayor gets the point across.”

On X, people called out Boebert’s comments for alleged racism.
