Hoda Kotb & Savannah Guthrie Reveal Major Shakeup On ‘Today’

Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie are well-known for shaking things up on the set of Today. The pair has made history by being the first all-female anchor team on the daily talk show. Now, they have announced a major change on the set and it had some viewers surprised. Keep reading to see what it is.

Hoda Kotb & Savannah Guthrie Get Rid Of Phone On Today

On Tuesday, the topic of conversation shifted to the culture on the set of The Today Show. The camera panned to a basket full of cell phones. Apparently, Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie are on a mission to make Today a phone-free space.

“Now take a look at that,” Savannah told viewers. “That is a basket of our cellphones. We decided to toss them in that basket for the whole show this morning. We were talking about our conversation with the Surgeon General, who wants a warning label on social media.”

Then Savannah went on to say that most parents know their kids are clamoring to have a smartphone of their own. In reality, she pointed out, the adults are just “as addicted as anyone else.” Hoda added, “We’ve had 30 minutes so far. Usually in commercial breaks, we’re taking care of our kids’ logistics but we’re feeling good.”

Savannah Guthrie recently spoke about how her six-year-old and nine-year-old kids were already begging her for a cell phone last year. However, after speaking with other parents who have given their kids access to a phone, she decided against it.

Hoda Kotb confessed that she occasionally slides her cell phone in front of her children when they’re stressed at the doctor’s office. “But then you don’t ever learn how to regulate your stress because the minute you need a break, the thing [phone] is slid right in front of you,” she said.

Not Everyone Is On Board With The Change

All in all, the decision to rid the set of Today of phones comes from a good place. Not everyone seems to be on board with the new change Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie proposed though. Craig Melvin called Carson Daly a “cheater” after he spotted him using his cell phone backstage.

“Do you want Popstart today people?” Carson questioned the rest of the Today team. “How am I supposed to study my notes?”

Al Roker doesn’t seem to be on board with the changes either. During the broadcast, the Today meteorologist asked, “Can I have the phone back?”

Whether the new policy that Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie are trying to implement will last long or not has yet to be seen.
